Wait...wait ....and KAPOW!!!

Writing is a very odd business, at least in my world. I have been in wait mode since December. Pending projects, half finished projects, projects waiting for editors, projects waiting for consultants and the all of a sudden everything starts moving at once.

What does my current list look like....
1. Finish 10 radio scripts for standard 1 English.
2. Begin last (please god say it is so) edits on last TV series
3. Begin scriptwriting on new TV series
4. Finish English textbook
5. Begin science textbook
6. Start edit/proofing process of last science textbook

I am happy I am a working writer earning money. But I wonder where I'll squeeze in my fiction writing. It will have to be somewhere or I'll become irritable, at least I know that.
Now- back to work!

  3. Don't be too exhausted- some of the projects I have help from my writing partner so it's not so bad.

  4. Wow, you have your hands full! But this balancing act, at least for me, is the hardest part of it all. It's so hard to know what will pay off, what won't, what you need to do for your only personal growth and development as a writer, what will give you joy, what will give you money. The fact that you earn money writing is fabulous, though. Not many can say that. But I can see how tough it is!

  5. Sue that's the whole thing. For me- novels just do not make money. No one in Botswana buys novels and until I write one that an agent or publisher wants outside of Africa,I will not make money that way. And finding those people from where I am is proving challenging.

It doesn't mean I stop writing novels and short stories. I can't- that's not an option.

BUT I decided I want to make a living as a writer. I want to write everyday. So I do. I still get to use my fiction brain when writing TV scripts- so that's good. Of course I love writing science textbooks- so that's fun. English textbooks- not so fun but at least I'm writing and trying to be as creative as I can with grammar. :( Okay- I'll admit trying to write songs to the tune of Mary Had a Little Lamb to teach little kids C-V-C words is a bit difficult BUT I am very thankful for the work- always. And all of it is fulfilling in its own way.

Bottom line- I still love my fiction world and I slip away every spare moment.

  7. Thanks V. Today I had intended to write down the short story that has been spinning in my head all week and now it is almost 5:30pm and I am nursery rhymed, CVC-ed, songs to the tune of Mary had a Little Lamb-ed OUT and I can't bear to write another thing. Maybe tomorrow.
